Syphilis

This is very uncommon but does need to be treated. The number of people with this disease is increasing and it can have very serious outcomes if it is ignored There are three stages of syphilis. In the first stage there may be no or very few symptoms but they can include: one or more ulcers on the penis, vulva, vagina, cervix, mouth or anus. There may also be small lumps due to swollen glands in the groin. The symptoms of the second stage often appear a few weeks after the ulcer has gone and may come and go, they include: itchy rash or dark patches on the palms or soles, feeling generally unwell, fever, extreme tiredness, headaches, wart-looking growths on the genitals, white patches inside the mouth, patchy hair loss and rarely major body organs being affected. Despite all these problems, if this STD is caught it is easily treatable and cured. It will appear around 2-3 weeks after infection and last for about 6 weeks.
